Busy weekends

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 9:54 am

Thanks to our interfaith couples group for coming to the hymn sing at my church last night!  It ment a lot to me that you all came, I hope you enjoyed it.  I get very stressed before playing, it made it much more fun that you were all there.  We got a lot done on the barn this weekend.  The pony is in the stall, though I still want to knock that front out and put a panel gate up instead of the chain link one.  That will have to wait till we get paid.  I think we are going to call her Lady.  I am tempted to make it Lady Amalthea from the Last Unicorn since she is white enough to play dressup with if we can get her better without going broke.  Say a little prayer for the poor think if you will.

Slow days at work

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 12:52 pm

I found Maggie a toy vacume and a bike helmet at a yardsale, so I’m crossing those off the list, gotta love yardsales.  I may have a home for Baccus, but I don’t want to say too much and jinx it.  The boss has been away at work so its been nice a slow lately, not really much to write today.  I’m hoping to take Wednesday off to go home and help cook, since Mike has invited so many people for Thanksgiving.  It’ll be crowded, but fun.

Vounteer opportunity

Filed under: Animal stuff, daily life — cdiacz @ 12:03 pm

Thanks for all who came to the party.  The food was AWESOME!!!  We will have to do that again sometime.

Some good news.  Thanks to PetSavers, Buddy found his own special home.  PetSavers is a very nice animal rescue, the kennels are clean, its no-kill, and the adoption requirements are not ridiculous like some private rescues.  I’d like to do some volunteer stuff to help them out if anyone is interested in joining in.  There is an Adoption Day sponsored by the horse rescue coming up on December 8, and PetSavers is going to try to make a presence with some dogs, kind of like they do with Petsmart.  Things we can help with is transporting animals, advertising, setting up a table, and hanging out to talk with people who might want to adopt.  Let me know if anyone might want to participate.

1 week till party time!

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 11:34 am

Most of you already know, our big Halloween party is this Saturday.  Bring a dish and a costume, we’ll have lots of fun.  Anyone who wants to help decorate let me know, we could use some extra help, cause we’ve all been sick and I am being sent to a genetics conference on Wed and Thurs so I will be missing two days this week.  I played my first Sunday on piano yesterday, didn’t get every note, but I think it went pretty well, but I got lots of practicing to do for next Sunday already.

rearranging the house

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 1:01 pm

Hooray! Mike said I can have the piano.  We are going to rearrange half the house to do it, but I think it will look nice.  We needed to get the ceiling fixed in that back room anyways.

Way overdue for an update

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 7:35 am

First let me say, Jess and Paul got married yesterday.  Way sorry we couldn’t make the wedding, really wanted to be there.  Wish you much happiness.  Mike and I have both started new jobs and its been pretty busy around here trying to adjust to the new schedule.  I’m still at LSU, just working under a new proffessor.  He’s really cool and I like being part of a team again.  There’s 5 of us in the lab, the head tech, 2 grad students and 2 summer students, so I’m not solitary anymore.  Its a genetic therapy project and theres lots of up-to-date techniques to learn.  It sounds much nicer to say I “make” DNA, rather than I do mean and nasty things to mice.  I actually work till 5:00 now though, so I’m having a harder time getting things done at home and with my art.  Mike started working for the International dealership this week.  Instead of being a service writer for cars, he’s doing the same thing but for big-rig trucks.  Should be more stability than dealing with the regular public.  So far he really likes it, but he won’t get his first paycheck till next Fri, so we are broke till then.  But we should get caught up quickly, I didn’t get a raise, but his pay should be much better.  Buddy has moved on.  Petsavers, a no-kill rescue here in town offered to take him.  Buddy’s such a sweet dog, I don’t see why he couldn’t get his own home if the public actually gets a chance to see him.  Pointer Rescue seemed to do nothing to promote him, I think he will have a better chance with this group.  He really needs a home of his own where his personality can shine.  I really do need to update the pets page.  Avalon has taken a little time to adjust, but she’s turning into a sweet cat, I need to get a picture of her, and Shadow is out in the barn somewhere, I need to replace her picture with one of Salem.   And I guess I should put a picture of the chickens up.  Ok, I think thats all the news for now.  Oh let me put up a picture of Maggie and the Faire Ring in our backyard.

dsc00615b.jpg dsc02928b.jpg A fairy ring is where the mushrooms grow out in a circle.  They are growing out from where we used to have the goat tied up.  I think the story goes something like its where fairies come to dance, and if you step inside the ring they will whisk you away.  I hope we didn’t piss them off…   hehe.

Everyones hurting right now

Filed under: daily life, stuff that keeps me up at night — cdiacz @ 7:47 am

Wisper a prayer for Gilbert the parot for me today. I came home yesterday to find blood all over the bird room. She had the tiniest little cut on her foot that would not stop bleeding. We tried bandages, stiptic powder, everything. I was so afraid she would bleed to death. She looked better this morning, but still I’m sure she’s anemic. She’s 20 years old and I’d really like to have her another 20 years, shes such a good bird. And Mike’s knee is still sore, Sharon’s been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and I sprained my wrist when Ponti decided to be an idiot. So I think we are just going to take it easy this weekend.

The pictures say it all!  This went great!  Thank you to everyone who helped!  I didn’t find out till later that Celtic Moon had a booth down there, next year maybe we can do something in conjunction with them.  I would have loved to stay down there if it wasn’t sooo hot.  We’ll have to plan for next year ahead of time!

Oh, and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
