The more I think about it, the more ideas I have about how we could fix up that old barn. Right now the important thing is to fix that stall so we can put the poor pony in it, and Durfy thinks we should just knock out that whole front wall and use a pasture gate to cover the whole front of it, that would probably be easier than trying to cut a window. But that stall really is big enough for two, maybe someday we can fix it into two stalls, and the other side used to be a chicken house, you can see where the old wire used to be. If we clean it out, we have the wire we could staple up, and then Bob wouldn’t be crowing so close to the house, we could maybe even incorporate their old kennel into the design and they could have an indoor/outdoor run. I haven’t been in the indoor section in awhile. How bad is the floor and roof? Could we clean it up and move tack and feed out there? If we actually had a stall for all 3 horses, it would be easy enough to feed them out there, and much nicer for them on rainy days. That would free up our storage shed. Could we eventually run electricity out there? These are kinda high hopes for the rickety old thing, and of course we couldn’t do it all this weekend, but maybe these are some things we can work on if we can get some friends with tools to hang out with us.

Barn demolition party
Ok, some of you may have heard about the injured pony we “took in”, yes I know our hearts are way bigger than our heads and I don’t want to go into too many details about that at the moment, but we need a place to keep her so she’s not standing in my back yard. The one side of our barn is the run in shed which is perfectly functional for the pasture horses. On the other side is that dark room with the little door which could easily be made into a stall if I can get a little help, maybe a party Saturday afternoon?. Whats left of the rotted floor needs to be pulled out, and I would like to take a hammer and knock some of the boards off the front wall so she has a little window to stick her head out of. I think the door is wide enough for her and we can put a stall guard up as a gate. Then we can pile up the wood and have a bonfire. Who’s up for it? Thanks!

Vounteer opportunity
Thanks for all who came to the party. The food was AWESOME!!! We will have to do that again sometime.
Some good news. Thanks to PetSavers, Buddy found his own special home. PetSavers is a very nice animal rescue, the kennels are clean, its no-kill, and the adoption requirements are not ridiculous like some private rescues. I’d like to do some volunteer stuff to help them out if anyone is interested in joining in. There is an Adoption Day sponsored by the horse rescue coming up on December 8, and PetSavers is going to try to make a presence with some dogs, kind of like they do with Petsmart. Things we can help with is transporting animals, advertising, setting up a table, and hanging out to talk with people who might want to adopt. Let me know if anyone might want to participate.

Lots of eggs
The three young hens have started laying so there are a lot more eggs now. Someone is laying very tiny ones. I know there were a couple people waiting for some, I will have some extra to give away now. And Bob is starting to tune up his crowing, sounded like a frog there for a bit.

Back from vacation
Well we just got home from New Jersey. Thats why I haven’t answered any emails in the last week or so, I’ve been gone. We kidnapped Mike’s grandma, she’s going to stay with us for awhile. Maggie liked the Jersey shore, she jumped waves till we had to drag her away.

Updated animal page
Ok, I finally got the animal page updated. Don’t panic, the changes in our animal residents didn’t just happen all at once. Buddy is now residing at the Petsavers kennel, where he is happily playing with the puppies. I don’t want to deal with Pointer rescue anymore, they have been no help at all, but Petsavers is a no-kill rescue and I would like to help them out some. We are probably going to adopt Mac, a scottie dog, from there. We are also boarding a gelding and 2 fillies that were rescued by a friend of ours. We are trying to put some weight on them. They should be here just for the summer until their own place is ready, it is definitely crowded out there.

We’re ok
Gilberts doing fine, thanks for asking. I am a little concerned I may need to find a home for the rat though. The new lab I’m in uses rats instead of mice and some labs discourage any contact with outside animals of the same species for fear of contamination and anything like that. I will have to ask the proffessor. If anyone is interested let me know.

we will have to trailer shop
Ok, so if we are going to keep Rhi, and actually do events with her, we really need to find a trailer that she fits in. That ricketty old 2-horse is ok for the 20 minute trip to the vet, but not for hauling all the way to texas for jousting lessons. Jess and Paul are going to be wanting that one back soon anyways. Keep an eye out for a used stock trailer, under $1000 if possible, even better if we can make payments. I know thats a hard find, but maybe if we put the word out one will come along. Thanks!

Polk Salad Parade
Anyone want to help me with a parade next weekend? We had planned on dressing Mike like a knight and him riding Phantom or Rhi, but he’s gotta work. I could still dress up like a princess on a unicorn or something, but I need a ground crew and someone to help with Maggie. If Phantom is calm she could even ride with me, but still, ground crew for safety please. Anyone got nothin else to do?

Puppies puppies everywhere…
My friend Penny’s yellow labs had 12 puppies. That’s a lot of puppies. Too bad dogs aren’t like horses, you know if you like your mare you breed her once and get a baby just like her. No with dogs, you breed em once and you get a dozen just like her. And you know me I’m tempted to go pick one out. (Well Buddy is leaving for a new home in a few weeks after all). My problem is I’m still looking for a dog to “replace” Taffie. She was my ultimate soulmate of a dog, complete with blue ribbons, and no she’s not dead she just lives with my mom and is going on like 13 years old. Maybe if I raised one from a puppy… Well I know there will never be another Taffie, too bad I couldn’t have bred her and gotten just one, she’s spayed of course, but then what would I breed her with anyways, we don’t really know what she is, lab and greyhound we think. Well enough rambling, point is go check out Penny’s page (its on my links page) and pick yourself out a puppy.
