They euthanized Barbaro the derby horse the other night. Legs are hard to fix on a horse, at least they did all they could for him.
I built a house for my chickens this weekend. They like it, they are so cute hopping in and out. They got out of their pen yesterday and were just walking around the yard together. They got back in when I herded them. It was like a flock of sheep or something, it made me laugh.

Anyone up for the Symphony?
Shreveport Symphony is playing Stravinsky’s Firebird this Saturday. If you don’t know the music, its the last piece at the end of Fantasia 2000, with the deer and the fairy, though the whole Firebird is more than what the play on Fantasia. It’s one of my favorites, my dad took me to see the whole ballet performed at the Philadelphia Academy of Music and it was amazing with sparkly Russian costumes and everything. I don’t think they are doing the ballet part, but I wouldn’t mind going to hear it if I can get someone to go with me. Cheap seats are $10 and its at 7:30 pm. I know Joe and Melisa’s hand fasting is that afternoon, but I wouldn’t think it would conflict. Anyone want to go?

hooray for nice weather
Yes I am southernized aren’t I. One month of cold is all I want. Glad was I to get some sun yesterday. I went out and rode Baccus, and then took Maggie for a walk. Gonna try taking her for a walk more often, its good exercise.

Hello out there.
Ok so I’m bored and haven’t had anything interesting to write in a while. Anyone out there reading? If all goes well Mike should be going back to Nisan. We found a Rennaisance faire that is near Tyler Texas. Check out www.fourwindsfaire.com. It’s closer than driving all the way to Dallas, and this is the fair that the jousting farm that Baccus came from goes to- I think they do full contact, not just staged stuff.

Ethanol fuel questions
Ok, here’s another example of how out of the news I am, maybe everyone else knows all about this stuff already, so maybe someone can fill me in a little. All I know about ethanol is what little I’ve heard from the environmentalists, that it is supposed to get us off oil, that it is supposed to put farmers back in business, its supposed to be good for the environment, and that it worked real well for Brazile. But I just heard some rumors about the down side of it this weekend, and I was wondering which rumors are more likely true. I heard its the reason the price of horse feed is going up. And soon the price of anything made with corn syrup (not that its good for you anyways) will go up. And then the price of cotton will go up because all the farmers are growing corn. And it isn’t like we’ve got world hunger solved- why are we turning food into gasoline if we don’t have enough food to begin with? Does that sound a little strange to anyone else? And I bet the price of land will suddenly go up too. Bad news for hobby farmers like us. And is corn really a reliable source? What about droughts, and winter weather, and mass farming wearing out the soil? Are they going to grow it all in hot houses? It just doesn’t sound like it is going to solve any problems to me.

Let me clarify
No Mike’s not out of work yet. It just doesn’t look real good for the dealership right now, so people are planning for a change now so they don’t end up stuck. Personally, I am hoping that a miracle will happen and Lincoln will stay open, we’ve been real happy with them.

On with 2007
Ok I know I’ve been lazy on the board here, but hey its the holidays right? We did get our bedroom set (thanks Mom!), it looks sooo much better in there now, and the lavender oil from Sheryl really adds to the ability to take a nice deep breath. You can actually relax in our bedroom now, instead of walking in and cringing. Just gotta pick a wall color and then get the pictures back up.
