Happy Halloween!

Rhiannon behaved herself!

Well I was going to write last night, but Mike wouldn’t give up the computer till Midnight, so this isn’t my halloween post yet. Adrianne was kind enough to watch Maggie for a bit Sunday night so Mike and I could ride together. Course together is a relative word since Ponti’s power walk leaves everyone else in the dust. Mike took Rhiannon. Rhiannon has bucked me off twice now, once when I asked for a canter and once on the road when she decided she didn’t like cars. Mike however can hop on without a helmet and off he goes. Scares me to death. But I watched what he did this time and I was very impressed. He doesn’t let her catch her breath long enough to misbehave. He just keeps her moving forward. We started out a trot until she settled, then did some walking and even cantering and rode all the way down to Main St and back and she gave him no problem. That’s a lot harder for someone like me who gets scared easy. Here I’ve taken lessons for years, and he just does an occasional trail ride, but he’s fearless and I still get nervous about cantering. Probably the same reason I took swimming lessons for years and still can’t keep my head above the water, just have no natural physical coordination. But anyways I was glad she did some work for once, and if we can get Mike to ride her at least once a week she’ll make a useful horse after all. Oh and I guess Bacchus is just going to stay Bacchus, its awful difficult to change a name once they’ve been home for a few weeks. But thanks for the ideas.

Name games and other things

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 11:59 am

I was thinking about changing Bacchus’s name to something more lord of the ringsy like Arod or Breggo. There’s nothing particularly wrong with the name Bacchus, its the greek god of wine (aka Dionysius), but it doesn’t really have any personal significance for me and it has kind of a coarse sound to my ears. There was a horse I rode at school whom I was rather fond of named Bacchus too, and I believe everyone should have their own name. Arod was Legolas’s horse, and I think it means swift foot, and Breggo was Aragorn’s horse in the movie, but in the book was an ancient king of Rohan. What do you think, any votes or suggestions?

Nice bonfire the other night by the way. Someone give Neil the website address. Adrianne, if you really like Rhiannon, I’ll teach you to ride her so you can come play with her whenever. She needs someone to spend time with her, and she is comfortable to ride- no need to post her trot. Both her and “whatever his name is to be” need to be led up and down the road now and then to get used to cars. That’s something easy enough to do.

Why I love Halloween

Foggy days

fog  Well it wasn’t as foggy this morning as it was the other day, but it was still pretty out.  That’s Bacchus the new guy there to the right with his back to me.  I rode him today for the first time since the test ride, and he did really well.  He might make a good show horse for me yet.

So whats new…

Filed under: daily life — cdiacz @ 9:18 pm

Mike is complaining that I haven’t updated the site, but I really haven’t had too much to say in the last few days.  We did move Bacchus the new horse in.  He’s not real fancy to look at but he does have an interesting personality.  He’s got a little bit of an attitude of I won’t work for you unless I decide I want to.  I like a little attitude in a horse, it makes the ride interesting.  He did all his tricks for me, but then wouldn’t do them when Mike came out to watch.  Four horses is a bit much to handle, but I think he is a nice enough guy we can swing it.  Never dreamed I would own more horses than I know what to do with.  I don’t really know what to think of that.  I will have to get a picture of him up here.  I wanted a picture of the horses in the fog the other morning, it was so pretty, but I was late for work and didn’t have time to look for the camera.

Changes

Filed under: Animal stuff — cdiacz @ 9:27 am

They made changes to our internet system at work, so it is hard for me to get to my page to write now. It seems to be working at the moment. We took Willy the goat to a new home at a goat farm this weekend. We really didn’t have proper facilities for him here and he will be much happier with other goats. The goat farmer was impressed with how healthy he was, so that made me feel better. Sometimes it is better to let them move on. Our friend Jess is still desperate to sell her horse Baccus. We may bring him here and see how he does. If we don’t end up keeping him I will advertise him for her. If you know anyone who wants a good horse let me know. Shadow messed outside the litter box a few too many times and has been voted to be the barn cat instead of Merlin. She is the least social of the three, and I know she won’t run off.
